Survivor 37: Big Nick Energy -- Season In Review

After a seemingly inevitable (to all but us) march to the finish line, Nick slew Goliath(s) and slithered away with a million-dollar cheque. Why did nobody treat him as the threat he was? How well did the finale cap off a stellar season? And are any of us smart enough to know what a 'hypothesis' is? All this and more as we close the book on Survivor for another year below, here, or on iTunes here.

  1. I suppose I have you two to thank for making the finale exciting for me, because between you, Rob, and my own natural pessimism, I went into this finale fully expecting Kara's underwhelming march to victory right up until the exact second Kara lost the fire challenge, and thus found things pretty thrilling when Nick kept defying my expectations.

I don't know the specifics of who he might be outside the show, but as someone who has grown up in Nick's part of the country and seen how thoroughly people are indoctrinated, I will *hope* that this experience can serve as a wedge in the door through which Nick might one day see the light, but it is not something I am banking on and I will not be following his exploits going forward. I will remember Nick as someone with a remarkably well-rounded edit, who we saw at both his peaks and valleys, whose virtues and mistakes were laid out for all, as though the editors wanted us to know that he was human. I hope many more human winners are in Survivor's future.
